It is fairly commonplace to have a Google device’s specs circulated well before the official launch, and the Google Pixel 8a leaks are no different. The Google I/O 2024 event is scheduled to bring us the Pixel 8a on May 14 but leakers and Google’s own admissions have brought forward a lot of the device’s details. The Tensor G3 chipset and its 6.1-inch AMOLED display are examples of Google Pixel 8a specs that are all but confirmed, but there are a few more details we have about the potential launch.

Google Pixel 8a Leaks—What to Expect from Google’s Next Device
Google will soon have an entirely new lineup of smartphones to market later in the year but its forays into AI are all set to take center stage this month. Google’s Gemini and Gemma AI tools are guaranteed to receive updates and will largely dominate the conversation during the I/O 2024 event, but the Pixel 8a does not intend to be forgotten in the mix.
Bringing the attention back to everything that’s arriving on Android, the Pixel 8a details will allow us to see Google’s vision, albeit in a cheaper, smaller form factor, and that’s exactly why the device launch is so important. When Google finally launches the Pixel 9, it will continue to target the premium smartphone market, putting it well out of reach for the average consumer, so we’ll take what we can get with the Pixel 8a.
Google Pixel 8a Specs—Everything We Know So Far
If you’re looking for the highlights of the Pixel 8a details, the Tensor G3 chip will be the main attraction, powered by the same chip as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. It is reported to have 8GB RAM, with options of 128GB and 256GB storage. The Google Pixel 8a camera specs include a dual rear camera setup with 64MP and 13MP lenses, and the selfie camera has also been tagged at 13MP. The cameras haven’t significantly upgraded from the Pixel 7a so we can’t help but but feel a little disappointed by the reveal. AI-powered features should ramp up the appeal of the camera setup a little bit, but we’re not sure it’ll do enough to truly upgrade its photography capabilities.
The Google Pixel 8a leaks have also revealed that the device will have a 6.1-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen with 2,000 nits peak brightness, all of it locked into place by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Additional Google Pixel 8a specs suggest it will offer an IP67 water and dust resistance rating so some protection is guaranteed with the device.
The Pixel 8a Design Details—Playing It Safe With Tradition
A vast number of Google Pixel 8a leaks, along with the company’s own goof-up with an ad, have revealed that it will largely resemble the Pixel 7a in terms of design. The smartphone showcases more rounded edges to reduce the angular design of its predecessor, and you can expect a few new colors to grace the body of the device. According to AndroidAuthority, Google Pixel 8a leaks have indicated we could have Volcanic Black, Porcelain, two shades of blue—Blue and Azure—and two shades of green—Green and Aloe.

Additionally, the Pixel 8a design will bring a matte finish this time, and its marketing involves a mention of the device being made from recycled materials, which is certainly interesting. The Pixel 8a’s reference to recycled materials likely refers to the back of the device or it could be the frame itself. The camera bar on the back has not been tampered with too much, which means unless you pay close attention, you won’t necessarily be able to differentiate between the device and its predecessor at a glance.

The largest contributor to the Google Pixel 8a leaks, Twitter user Evan Blass (@evleaks), was able to go as far as to bring the entire product page layout and description to us, which has helped us confirm a lot of the details others had hinted at.
Battery Details of the Pixel 8a
According to GSMArena, the battery capacity is getting a slight bump up from the Pixel 7a, moving from 4,385 mAh to 4,492 mAh. Rumors suggest the battery life can be extended to 72 hours with the power saver mode. We have little use for this particular detail as we’ll rarely find occasion to engage the device at minimum capacity. Without the power saver mode enabled, we should see “over 24 hours” of use from the device. Qi wireless charging will also be supported by the Pixel 8a.
Pixel 8a Price Plans
The Pixel 8a’s price has led to some amount of confusion as we’ve gone back and forth between whether they’re planning to hike the price tag or not. Earlier rumors suggested it would be over $500, and corrections emerged that stated it would stay within the $500 range. Now, promotional images by Twitter user Arsène Lupin (@MysteryLupin) show the European pricing at €549 Euros, which is more expensive than the Pixel 7a. So in the end, we’re still expecting a more expensive price tag with the latest Google phone.

Perhaps the price increase will be reserved for Europe only, which is a completely possible move in the company’s approach to different markets. According to OnLeaks, the Google Pixel 8a price will be set at $499 USD, but the caveat is that this will only apply to the 128GB edition of the device. If you want more storage space, you’ll have to shell out $599 USD. At this point, you’re only $100 USD away from the 128GB Pixel 8 phone, so you might have a tough decision to make about what you want to prioritize.
Other Details Revealed by the Google Pixel 8a Leak
Keeping with the Pixel 8’s promise of seven years of security and software upgrades, the Pixel 8a leaks indicate the upcoming device is not being left behind in this regard. This is good news as many worried Google would reserve its extended support for the higher-end devices only. The Google Pixel 8a leaks have also indicated that buying the soon-to-be-launched device will give you 3 months of free access to YouTube Premium, Fitbit Premium, and Google One, in case that makes the purchase more appealing to you.
If all of this makes you eager to get your hands on the Google Pixel 8a, then you might have a slightly shorter wait than you’d expect. Leaker Billbil-kun at Dealabs has stated that Google might open pre-orders up on May 7, a whole week before the Google I/O 2024 conference—this is when the actual sale of the device should begin. This would be a highly unusual move from the company so we’re not sure whether to pay heed to this rumor, but we’re hours away from testing the validity of this particular detail.
If you’ve had your eyes on the Google Pixel phones but haven’t gotten in on the game yet, the Pixel 8a could be a great place to take the leap. However, if you’re planning on upgrading from a Pixel 7a, so far, we’ve seen little reason to prompt an upgrade to the upcoming device.
