Qualcomm carries the smartphone industry on its back for the most part, which makes this Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 review essential reading for our understanding of these devices. We’ve had a few weeks since the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 release on March 21, 2024, and unsurprisingly, AI has held up as the primary selling point. On-device artificial intelligence is the “next big thing” and smartphone makers are caught up trying to bring these features to mid-range devices. Now that the majority of higher-end devices already promise some degree of AI integration, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 with its Cortex-X4 will help other smartphones catch up to their expensive brethren.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 Review—Specs, Features, and Upcoming Releases
The first version of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 was announced on November 17, 2023, and included AI as its primary selling point. Its Kryo CPU promised peak speeds of up to 2.63 GHz, which guaranteed 15 percent improved performance and 20 percent power efficiency increases. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 also showcased the company’s proprietary Adreno GPU, which could support 50 percent faster graphics rendering than its predecessor. The Qualcomm AI engine, the force behind the magic, was made up of the Hexagon NPU and the Sensing Hub, both elements that could provide a secure but stable AI experience. Gaming was also a core focus of the chip but that hasn’t created as much of an impact just yet.
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 release followed the chipset in March 2024, and it certainly is an improved version, even if the differences are slight. Now we have a chance to review the more localized features of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 Specs—What To Expect
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 features largely echo the kit that its predecessor introduced with AI and gaming, but enhanced to meet the ever-evolving demands of the consumer. Cloud-based artificial intelligence is fun but bringing it on-device means that consumers can use the features more quickly, even when they don’t have a Wi-Fi connection immediately available.
Speaking of Wi-Fi, this will be the first in the series to support Wi-Fi 7 with high-band simultaneous multi-link, making it a top choice for connectivity. This will allow the device to simultaneously use multiple Wi-Fi bands to support improved performance and reliability, minimizing latency in the process. To make all this possible, the Qualcomm chip uses the Snapdragon X63 5G-modem RF system and the FastConnect 7800 mobile connectivity system.
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 specs report a 15 percent boost in its 64-bit Kryo CPU performance and a 45 percent improvement in its Adreno GPU. Power consumption will also go down by 5 percent, so better battery support is almost guaranteed. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 prime Cortex-X4 core registers 2.8 GHz speeds and includes 4 performance cores and 3 efficiency units.
A Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 review has to mention its display and sound support as well.
Snapdragon Sound Technology Suite
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 features include compatibility with the Snapdragon Sound Technology suite that supports spatial audio with a head-tracking system. The LE Audio with Auracast broadcast audio will allow multiple devices to connect to your smartphone, without any worry about latency.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 Display Support
With the new chip, smartphones could support a maximum on-device display resolution of QHD+ at 144 Hz and 4K Ultra HD at 60 Hz. With a 10-bit color depth and Rec.2020 color gamut, there should be no issues with color quality or compromises with the visual experience.
Gamers Can Rejoice at the “75 Percent” Improved Performance
The audio and visual experience already defined, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 features the Game Post Processing Accelerator which reports a 75 percent increase in gaming performance when in use. It supports “visual effects like bloom, depth of field, and motion blur,” which will all add to the experience of watching your favorite mobile games unfold in front of you.
Along with a few features thrown in to support photography via the camera capabilities, Qualcomm hopes to put the smart in smartphones with its latest chipset.
“Today, we embark on the latest expansion in the 7-series to create new levels of entertainment for consumers – integrating next-generation technologies for richer experiences. Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is packed with support for incredible on-device generative AI features and provides incredible performance and power efficiency while bringing Wi-Fi 7 to the Snapdragon 7 Series for the first time.”

OnePlus is one of the first brands to have embraced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 and Louis Li, President of OnePlus China, confirmed the same in the Qualcomm announcement. Other brands who have already reviewed and signed up for the chip include realme and SHARP, companies that should be ready to announce a new product in the upcoming months.
